Twenty years of building what we design.

East Bay Rhode Island and Southcoast Massachusetts’ design-build firm. Founded in 2004.

We brought the architectural backgrounds of our team into the construction practice and haven’t stopped since.

Our story.

Since 2004, Sixteen on Center has worked to bring the team’s architectural backgrounds into its construction practice. Our approach to construction through the lens of a designer, and the belief that drawing is a fundamental tool in the construction process.

That approach flourishes most when we’re involved from the beginning: through planning and feasibility, design and material selection, and into construction. Our knowledge of the construction field allows us to guide clients with informed recommendations at every stage. Our holistic approach to design and construction is what makes Sixteen on Center stand out.

Who we are.

The people you’ll work with.

Sixteen on Center is a tight-knit team of designers, project managers, site supervisors, and carpenters. We take an interest in each step of a project and often collaborate throughout both the design and build processes. Every project receives dedicated, professional support.

Project Managers

Charged with knowing their projects inside and out—from the drawings to the budget to permitting and scheduling. With backgrounds in architecture, their eyes are trained on executing the design intent to the fullest.

Site Supervisors

Our eyes and ears on the ground, dedicated to the project throughout. They are the immediate point of contact for each of our subcontractor teams and are in daily contact with our project managers.

Fabrication Shop

Custom millwork and cabinetry designed and built in-house. From kitchens to bathrooms to built-in features, our shop is equipped to handle projects of any scale with a dedicated finishing process.

Made in-house.

Most design-build firms outsource their millwork. We don’t. Our in-house fabrication shop designs and builds custom cabinetry, built-ins, and finish carpentry for every project that calls for it—kitchens, bathrooms, mudrooms, workspaces. Shop drawings are produced in-house, fabrication happens here, and the same team that drew it installs it.

That integration—design, fabrication, and installation under one roof—is what allows us to hold tolerances and details that a contractor relying on an outside shop simply can’t guarantee. The result is work that fits the way it was drawn and finishes the way it was intended.

What makes us different.

One Team, Start to Finish

The people designing your project and the people building it work together from day one. No handoffs. No gaps.

Rooted in Architecture

Our team brought the architectural backgrounds of its members into the construction practice. That knowledge of construction methods paired with our design sensibilities means solutions are thought through before they’re built—allowing us to adjust and react effectively, and deliver results genuinely suited to each client’s needs.

Budget Clarity

Because design and construction are a continuous conversation, your project is grounded by an established budget.

How it works.

Most home projects are split between a designer and a contractor. At Sixteen on Center, design and construction are one team from start to finish—guiding your project from the initial idea through the final detail.
